Ann Carder, Pharm.D, Red Oak, IA
I joined SIPA as a student while attending Creighton University School of Pharmacy. I graduated in 2006 and currently work as a Director of Pharmacy at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. We are a critical access hospital (CAH) with 25 acute/skilled beds and 8 observation beds. As a small hospital, my work has great variety from preparing IV medications for inpatients to mixing oncology medications for outpatient services. MCMH hosts second year early practice experience and fourth year hospital rotation pharmacy students. I serve as their preceptor.
In 2010, I served on the IPA Health-System Pharmacist Liaison Board.
In 2011, I was appointed to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Section Advisory Group for Small & Rural Hospitals. As part of the special programming for Small & Rural Hospitals at the Midyear ASHP meeting held in Las Vegas in December of 2012, I spoke briefly on the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative and how our hospital tracked Adverse Drug Events (ADRs). In 2013, I presented on the 340B Drug Discount Purchase Program at the same ASHP event in Orlando, FL.
I joined the SIPA Board in 2011. The SIPA organization has helped me professionally since being a pharmacy student with education and networking opportunities. By being on the board, I am able to give back.
When I am not working in the pharmacy, I enjoy playing tennis and traveling. As time permits, I volunteer locally for the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery County Family YMCA, and Wilson Performing Arts Center.
