TONY BERALDI
President
Tony Beraldi is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Creighton University in 1986. He has practiced at Oard-Ross Drug, a community pharmacy in Council Bluffs, since graduation.
Tony’s thoughts about serving on the board: “I think being involved in one’s profession is extremely important. We need to share ideas with our colleagues, especially those in our own community. We can learn a great deal from each other simply by sitting down at the same table and exchanging thoughts. Serving as a board member of the Southwest Iowa Pharmacists Association allows me the opportunity to work with local pharmacy leaders, faculty and student leaders at schools of pharmacy, leaders of other local associations around the country, leaders serving state associations, and leaders of our national organizations.”
“Our board members and membership impress me by their passion for our profession. Many of them drive for over an hour to get to meetings, and then return home very late at night. They genuinely desire for pharmacy to continue moving forward. Whether they attend a continuing education seminar, write to their political leaders, or sign a petition, they take action. One of my favorite quotes is: “To succeed in life in today’s world, you must have the will and tenacity to finish the job.” Our association does!
Tony is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and has served in the following professional roles: coordinator, The Coalition to Grandfather Pharmacy Technicians; co-author and past coordinator of the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Challenge; past on-site coordinator of the NCPA’s Medicare Forum held in Council Bluffs, (445 people in attendance, the largest NCPA Medicare Forum in the country); past member of the Dean’s Alumni Advisory Board for the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions; past trustee of the Iowa Pharmacy Association; past chairman of the Iowa Pharmacists Association Resolution Committee; past member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Legislative Alert Network; past member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Medicaid Advisory Committee; past member of the Iowa Pharmacy Associations Young Pharmacist Committee; local contact for the Association of Community Pharmacists Legislative Network (ACP*CN); past member of the American Pharmacists Association; past board member of the Nebraska Council for Continuing Pharmacy Education (NCCPE); past member of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Continuing Education Committee; past member of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy committee, (this committee established the degree at the school); past member of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy Admissions Committee; past member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Membership Committee; past regional delegate to the Iowa Pharmacy Association; past local association delegate to the Iowa Pharmacy Association; past coordinator of Pharmacy Leadership Day for the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy; participant of the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Young Pharmacists Leadership Conference; participant of the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Professional Development Conference, past board member of the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians (AAPT).
Tony has served his community in the following capacities: co-presenter with Senator Tom Harkin at the Council Bluffs Senior Center’s Medicare Part D forum; speaker at several Phi Lambda Sigma induction ceremonies; patient counseling at the Health Fair of the Midlands; panelist on the AARP’s Forum on Health Care Reform; presented Katy’s Kids many times; career days at local elementary and high schools; judge for an elementary school science fair; past involvement with Red Ribbon Week; past chairman of the Substance Abuse Communication Committee; past member of the Coalition for a Drug Free Community; member of the Pottawattamie County Tobacco Prevention Committee.
Tony has received the following awards and honors: Alumni Merit Award, Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, 2002; inducted as an honorary member of Phi Lambda Sigma by the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, 1992; named one of 20 leading young pharmacists in Iowa by the Iowa Pharmacy Association, 1991; Eli Lilly Leadership Award, presented by the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, 1986; Dean’s list, fall 1985 and spring 1986; Rho Chi Award, 1985, (presented by Rho Chi, not a member of Rho Chi).
Other items of interest about Tony: he served as the president of the student government at the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions his senior year, and in that role served on many school and university committees. He was the chairman of the committee that established the Teaching Assistant Program his junior year. He also coordinated the program his junior and senior years. The program was funded by the school of pharmacy and the university Office of Minority Affairs. He served as the chairman of a fund-raising committee composed of student representatives from the schools of pharmacy, medicine, nursing, dentistry, and law.
